About Free Trade Agreement

The results of studies show that the number of free trade agreements is increasing year by year. This is evident from the statistics: 124 such agreements were notified to the WTO until 1995. On 15 January 2012, the World Trade Organization registered 319 free trade agreements. However, it is unlikely that trade in financial markets is completely free in this day and age. There are many supranational regulatory bodies for global financial markets, including the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision, the International Organization of the Financial Markets Authority (IOSCO) and the Committee on Capital Movements and Invisible Transactions. Since WTO members are required to communicate their free trade agreements to the secretariat, this database is based on the official source of information on free trade agreements (called the WTO-language regional trade agreement). The database allows users to obtain information on trade agreements that are communicated to the WTO by country or theme (goods, services or goods and services). This database provides users with an up-to-date list of all existing agreements, but those that are not notified to the WTO may be lacking. In addition, reports, tables and graphs containing statistics on these agreements, including preferential tariff analysis, are presented. [26] The rules of origin for a country`s products are set out in a protocol on origin attached to the specific agreement between the EU and the country concerned. A free trade agreement focuses primarily on economic benefits and the promotion of trade between countries by making it more efficient and profitable. As a general rule, agreements remove tariffs on goods, simplify customs procedures, remove unjustified restrictions on what may or may not be exchanged, and make it easier for businessmen to travel or live in each other`s country. But free trade agreements can also have political, strategic or aid benefits.

Together, these agreements mean that about half of all goods entering the United States enter duty-free, according to the government. The average import duty on industrial products is 2%. Free trade agreements, which are free trade zones, are generally outside the scope of the multilateral trading system. However, WTO members must inform the secretariat when new free trade agreements are concluded and, in principle, the texts of free trade agreements are reviewed by the Committee on Regional Trade Agreements. [11] Although a dispute in free trade areas is not the subject of litigation within the WTO`s dispute resolution body, «there is no assurance that WTO panels will comply and reject jurisdiction in a particular case.» [12] A free trade agreement is therefore an important trade policy instrument managed by the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC), in accordance with the agreement on the Eurasian Economic Commission of 18 November 2011, which authorises the EEC to carry out its activities with a view to establishing commercial treatment with third countries.
